  • The Grangefield Academy raise over £2,000 for CALM The Grangefield Academy raise over £2,000 for CALM

On the 14th October 2023, The Grangefield Academy took part in the Lost Hours Walk to raise money for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a mental health charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide in the UK – https://www.thecalmzone.net/

125 lives are lost every week to suicide and 75% of all UK suicides are male. CALM exists to change this through running life-changing services, national campaigns, provoking conversations and bringing people together so they can get help when they need it. CALM stands together with everyone who is struggling with life, no matter who they are, where they’re from or what they’re going through. The Lost Hours Walk was launched by CALM in 2019 to “smash the silence around suicide and deal with grief differently and defiantly.”

Over 20 people took part in the Lost Hours Walk, hiking 20 miles along the coastal route from Saltburn-by-the-Sea to Whitby. The walk was open for anyone to take part in, and took 8 hours to complete. With an initial target to raise £1,000, the academy exceeded this amount, raising an incredible £2,140!

Rosie Dawkins, Inclusion Coordinator at The Grangefield Academy said “We had a great day and it was a brilliant team building exercise. It was so lovely that so many different staff got involved and we got to know each other on a personal level, having the time to chat and share stories which is not normally possible when the academy is so busy. As a team, we are so proud that we raised so much money for a cause that is so important.”

    Well done to everyone involved.
