  • The Grangefield Academy and North Shore Academy raise over £1,600 for CALM The Grangefield Academy and North Shore Academy raise over £1,600 for CALM

On the 12th October 2024, The Grangefield Academy, North Shore Academy and the Northern Education Trust Central Team took part in a fundraising walk to raise money for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). CALM is a mental health charity in the UK that provides life-saving services, information and advice to help anyone struggling with life, to navigate the issues that can make us feel miserable. 125 lives are lost every week to suicide and 75% of all suicides are male. CALM was the chosen charity as staff felt they could relate to the importance of CALM’s work through their personal experiences, but also through their various roles within the Trust and working with their local community.

23 staff from across Grangefield, North Shore and the Central Team took part in a 20 mile walk from Whitby to Saltburn, leaving Grangefield bright and early at 7am and began the walk from Whitby at 8.15am. The walk took staff across the beautifully picturesque but challenging coastal Cleveland way, with stops at Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Skinningrove and eventually arriving at Saltburn at 4.30pm.

Staff experience some mixed weather along the way but were mostly lucky with dry spells until 4 miles in when they endured a heavy downpour on the final stretch between Skinnergrove and Saltburn but this wasn’t enough to dampen their high spirits.

This is the second time staff have completed this walk, raising £2,210 in 2023. This year, a fantastic £1,631 was raised, which included an incredibly generous donation of £300 from Northumbrian Water.

Collectively, staff are unbelievably grateful for the generous donations and are proud to have raised over £3,800 for CALM in the last 12 months. Declan Wild, Assistant Principal and Teacher of Humanities at The Grangefield Academy said “I have been overwhelmed with the support staff have shown for the walk, giving up their Saturday of relaxation with their friends and family to come together for a hugely important cause; a real embodiment of ‘we are the Trust’.

The JustGiving page will remain open until the end of November 2024 if anyone would like to make any further donations: https://www.justgiving.com/page/grangefield-fundraiser-1725614246018

A huge well done to everyone involved.
